Each year in school were allowed to bring a shoebox that we decorated to collect our Valentines in. Well…this kinda thing is right up my alley! I love Valentines to this day, and I think it all started with those boxes that we were assigned to make. I would go right straight to Gam’s house because, one- she might give me one of Pops cigar boxes, and two- sometimes she gave me REAL lace scraps that I could use to decorate my box. Then, on Valentines Day, we brought them in and sat them on our desk and we could go around and put Valentines in each other’s boxes.

I’ve always loved paper, or pretty stationary, cards and vintage valentines and I would give almost anything to just have one of those boxes I made way back then! I have nearly every solitary card I’ve received for at least the last 35 years and someday when I am retired and bored, I want to wallpaper my bedroom with those cards, so I can have all that love surrounding me for the rest of my life…

I think what I appreciate and respect the most about paper stationery and cards is the time it takes to sit down, and hand write the words you want to say. It’s somehow different than typing out an email or a text message. Handwritten notes are the most special and personal things you can have from someone, and I treasure them.

I treasure the time period in our lives the excitement waiting for a letter or a card to come in the mail would bring.

I treasure how special it was that someone took the time to write to me their feelings, and the journey those words went on, through the mail, to make their way to me.
