Olive M. was one of my Dads beautiful sisters, she is one of my two Aunts that I lived closest to down in Onancock after I moved from Signpost to live with my Mom in 1984. I remember her house being brick and I think she had white carpet. Her house, in the 80’s was on Onancock Creek in Mount Prospect. Her husband Richard M., a very dear and kind man who looks exactly the same as he did to me 50 years ago. Their dear daughters, Susan & Sandy, I used to love when they were visiting at Gams because that meant music around the piano.

One year she went on vacation and brought me back a little matching top and skort set and I thought I was the cats meow whenever I wore that outfit! I had checked on her house for her while she was away and that was my treat, PLUS payment- it sure made me a happy girl that summer.

I think her funeral was so large they had to block off Main St for the procession from Onancock Baptist Church to the cemetery. Somehow or another I ended up with a pair of her alligator high heeled shoes…and I had them for years, I was never brave enough to wear them anywhere but I surely tried them on often and walked around the house!

An exquisite woman, perfectly put together at all times it seemed and made it look effortless. In my mind I always see her in Gams “good” living room, with her sisters all around, chattering and laughing on a Sunday afternoon…
